Everything Money Can’t BuyOne hundred years ago Newnes was a thriving mining town. Today it lies abandoned in the world heritage wilderness of Wollemi National Park. The only surviving building is The Newnes Hotel which celebrated it’s centenary in 2007. The aim is to restore the historic hotel and provide an unforgettable holiday experience for young and old. Surrounded by spectacular sandstone cliffs, rain-forested canyons and the historic ruins of the former shale oil mining town, the guests are offered an experience of pure nature and Australian history. The Wolgan Cabin, sleeps 6, the "Capertee"" and Colo cabins sleep 4 each. All cabins have a modern kitchen and bathrooms. There is also an on site caravan and campground where well behaved pets are welcome. A fourth cabin will be under construction in 2011. Newnes offers a great ‘time out’ and many nature based activities: rock climbing, canyoning, many beautiful walks along the Wolgan river, through rainforest canyons or right up to the mountain tops. The walk through the historic ruins brings alive the industrial era of 100 years ago. The development is designed in an ecological, sustainable way. It runs 100% on solar power, we have our own underground sewerage treatment plant, water supply from a beautiful spring, a large vegie garden and chooks - Everything money can’t buy. """"" |
